Housed within the former ducal palace, this is one of the oldest and richest art museums in France, its origins reaching back to the eighteenth century. Its most celebrated treasures are the elaborately sculpted and gilded tombs of the dukes of Burgundy, ringed by mourning figures carved in alabaster. Beyond these, galleries display medieval art, Renaissance paintings, and modern works across the palace's grand halls. A major renovation reopened the collection with improved lighting and displays that highlight the building's own history.
