Also known as the Promenade Plantée, this elevated linear park runs for several kilometres along a disused 19th-century railway viaduct in the east of Paris, and was among the first such greenways in the world. Rising above the streets on brick arches, it is planted with roses, lavender, climbing vines and trees, offering aerial views into surrounding apartments and courtyards. The arches below shelter craft ateliers known as the Viaduc des Arts. The route later inspired similar projects abroad, including New York's High Line.
