This neoclassical building, formally Parliament Buildings, houses the Northern Ireland Assembly on a wooded estate east of the city centre. Opened in 1932 in white Portland stone, it stands at the top of a long ceremonial avenue lined with grassland and mature trees. A statue of Edward Carson stands before the entrance, and the surrounding parkland is open to the public for walking and recreation. The building has been central to the region's political life, including the workings of the power-sharing government.
