Neal's Yard is a small, brightly painted courtyard hidden among the streets of Covent Garden, reached through narrow alleys that open unexpectedly onto a burst of colour. Named after the seventeenth-century developer Thomas Neale, the area was once a run-down warehouse district before its transformation in the 1980s into a hub of wholefood shops and cafés. The clustered facades painted in vivid hues, hanging plants and quirky details make it a favourite for photographers, contrasting sharply with the busy shopping streets around it.
