Catalan Romanesque Churches of the Vall de Boí

Almost every village in the narrow Vall de Boí keeps a Romanesque church, their slender Lombard bell towers rising against the high Pyrenees of Catalonia. Built when this remote valley lay on medieval routes across the mountains, churches like Sant Climent de Taüll once glowed with murals now largely conserved in Barcelona. Enclosed fields surround the villages, with summer pastures on the slopes above. UNESCO inscribed the ensemble in 2000.
