Ten thousand years of human passage are etched into the rocks of northern Saudi Arabia at two desert sites: Jabal Umm Sinman at Jubbah, where a long-vanished lake once drew people and animals to the southern edge of the Great Nafud, and Jabal al-Manjor and Raat at Shuwaymis, escarpments above a sand-choked wadi. Generations of the ancestors of today's Arabs left dense petroglyphs and inscriptions on these faces. UNESCO listed the ensemble in 2015.
