Gros Piton and Petit Piton — twin volcanic spires of 770 and 743 metres — surge straight from the Caribbean beside the town of Soufrière, giving Saint Lucia the most recognisable silhouette in the Lesser Antilles. The surrounding management area takes in a geothermal field of fumaroles and hot springs, moist forest slopes, and reefs covering nearly 60 percent of its waters, with 168 fish species counted. UNESCO listed the 2,909-hectare property in 2004.
