On the Kamchatka Peninsula the Pacific Ring of Fire performs at full strength: one of the densest concentrations of active volcanoes on Earth, set beside glaciers, geysers and untamed rivers. Six separate areas make up this World Heritage Site, inscribed by UNESCO in 1996, and the wildlife matches the scenery — brown bears fishing amid the world's greatest diversity of salmonid fish, plus sea otters and Steller's sea eagles.
