Makli hill is a city of the dead — one of the largest necropolises on Earth, spread beside Thatta, which served three successive dynasties as capital and was later embellished under Delhi's Mughal emperors between the 14th and 18th centuries. Carved stone tombs and glazed-tile monuments map Sindh's history of saints and sultans. The Historical Monuments at Makli, Thatta joined the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1981.
