Rhinoceros, elephant, ostrich and giraffe parade across the sandstone at Twyfelfontein, known in the Damara/Nama language as /Ui-//aes — one of Africa's largest concentrations of rock engravings. Hunter-gatherer communities used the site for ritual over at least 2,000 years, leaving thousands of petroglyphs plus shelters painted with red-ochre human figures. It became Namibia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
