Pre-Hispanic City of Teotihuacan

Even the Aztecs found Teotihuacan ancient, naming it the place where the gods were created. Laid out along the Avenue of the Dead between the 1st and 7th centuries AD, the metropolis some 50 kilometres from modern Mexico City ranked among Mesoamerica's mightiest powers, its Pyramids of the Sun and Moon and the feathered-serpent Temple of Quetzalcoatl built to a rigorous cosmic geometry. UNESCO inscribed the pre-Hispanic city in 1987.
