Paracuru

Paracuru is a fishing town and beach resort on the coast of Ceará, about 90 kilometres northwest of Fortaleza in Brazil's windswept northeast. Long popular with Fortaleza weekenders for its Carnival and surf, it has also grown into one of the region's dependable kitesurfing and windsurfing spots, ringed by beaches, dunes, and a tidal river mouth.

The trade winds define the season. From roughly July to December the southeast trades blow hard and steadily almost every day, side-shore along the beaches, driven by the dry Brazilian winter. Conditions vary within a short distance: open beaches offer choppy water and waves, while the shallow river mouth and lagoons behind the town give flatter water for freestyle. Warm water year-round means boardshorts, not wetsuits.

The steady, strong wind suits intermediate and advanced riders, though the flat lagoon sections and schools in town make it workable for improving beginners. Downwinders along the coast toward neighbouring beaches are a regional highlight, run with support vehicles.

Access is a straightforward drive from Fortaleza's international airport, under two hours on paved road, which makes Paracuru a common first or last stop on longer Ceará kite trips. The town keeps a working-fishing-village feel alongside its pousadas and beach bars, with jangada sailing boats on the sand and a lively local Carnival. For travellers, it offers strong wind, warm water, and easy logistics without the crowds of the more famous spots further west.
