A cliff-ledge walk along the Garden Wall, the Highline is Glacier National Park's signature day hike, contouring the Continental Divide from Logan Pass with almost constant views across the Going-to-the-Sun valley.

The standard point-to-point runs about 11.8 miles to The Loop, staying comparatively level with only around 800 feet of net gain, though a steep spur to the Grinnell Glacier Overlook adds roughly 1,000 feet and a superb vantage. Hikers usually ride the park shuttle back to their start.

Practical detail: no permit is needed for the day hike, but the trail opens only once the high snow clears, typically mid-July. Early sections traverse a narrow shelf blasted into the rock, with a hand cable for reassurance above a long drop. This is prime grizzly habitat, so bear spray and noise are advised.

July through September is the window; wildflowers peak in high summer and mountain goats and bighorn sheep are common along the wall. Reaching Granite Park Chalet, a 1914 backcountry lodge, gives many hikers a natural turnaround before the descent.
