Imbituba

Imbituba is a port town on the Santa Catarina coast whose beaches have hosted international professional surfing events. Praia da Vila, its central surf beach, is the competitive heart, while quieter strands like Praia do Rosa lie just to the south.

The main wave is a reef and point-influenced beach break at Praia da Vila, capable of long, well-shaped walls and hollow sections when the swell is right. It has held tour-level contests, so it favours intermediate and advanced surfers, though the broader coast offers softer options for all abilities.

Southern groundswells provide the power, most consistent through the southern autumn and winter from April to September. Cooler southern-Brazil water means a wetsuit is usual in the off-season, and clean, offshore mornings deliver the best contest-quality conditions.

Imbituba is also a right-whale sanctuary. Each winter southern right whales come close to shore to breed, and the town has built a whale-watching identity around them, complete with a dedicated museum. Beyond the working port, the coastline of headlands, dunes and the celebrated Praia do Rosa lagoon is strikingly beautiful. This mix of competitive-grade surf, marine wildlife and scenic beaches makes Imbituba a standout on southern Brazil's shore.
