Daet

The capital of Camarines Norte in the Bicol Region of south-eastern Luzon, Daet fronts the Pacific and is best known to surfers for the long grey-sand sweep of Bagasbas Beach. It is one of Bicol's most accessible surf and watersports spots, with a relaxed provincial atmosphere.

Bagasbas Beach is chiefly a beach break, with sand banks producing lefts and rights that are gentle and forgiving on smaller days, making it a friendly place to learn, and steeper and more powerful when typhoon swells arrive. Surf schools and board rentals line the beach, and the same exposure that brings the waves also makes it a popular kitesurfing and skimboarding location. Advanced surfers find the best of it on bigger swells.

The surf season runs roughly October to March, during the north-east Amihan monsoon, when Pacific swells reach the coast and conditions are most reliable; the Bicol region's frequent typhoons can also generate larger, heavier surf. Water is warm year-round, so only light kit is required.

Daet has historical significance as the site of one of the earliest monuments to the national hero José Rizal, and it serves as a gateway to the wider Bicol coast, including the Calaguas Islands with their pristine beaches offshore. The town itself is a working provincial capital rather than a resort strip. Reached by road or a domestic flight to nearby Naga followed by a drive, Daet offers approachable Pacific beach surf and a springboard to some of Bicol's finest island scenery.
