Troncones

Troncones is a laid-back beach village on the Pacific coast of Guerrero, a short drive north of the resort towns of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. A long stretch of golden sand backed by palms, small posadas and a scattering of beachfront restaurants has made it a relaxed surf, yoga and wellness retreat.

The surf offers several distinct options, from a punchy beach break along the main sand to a rocky point break at the northern end near Manzanillo Bay that peels as a longer, well-shaped left. That mix suits a range of abilities, with mellow beach peaks for improving surfers and the point rewarding more experienced riders on a good swell. The reef at Manzanillo Bay and the beach breaks in between mean a surfer can pick a wave to match both the swell and their skill.

Warm water and consistent Pacific swell define the spot, and the exposed beach break can grow powerful and hollow when the surf is up, so the shorebreak deserves genuine respect. The village atmosphere stays unhurried and low-rise, with small hotels, open-air restaurants and a strong yoga and retreat scene woven right through the local surf culture.

The main swell season runs through the southern-hemisphere winter, roughly April to October, when south swells feed the coast; the water stays warm year-round and the climate is tropical. Access is by road from the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area, with a short final drive down to the beach. For a low-key Mexican surf holiday that pairs quality waves with palms, hammocks and quiet mornings, Troncones has a devoted following. Sea turtles nest along this coast, and the village's quiet, unpolished feel is a deliberate contrast to the resorts down the road.
