A glaciated 5,790-meter volcano northeast of Quito and the only place on Earth where the equator crosses permanent snow. Mountaineers acclimatize at the Ruales-Oleas-Bergé refuge before pre-dawn summit pushes, while day visitors can drive to the glacier line for high-altitude views.
