A near-nightly lightning storm over the mouth of the Catatumbo River at Lake Maracaibo, flickering up to 260 nights a year and visible from far across the water. Tours from Mérida overnight in stilt-house villages such as Congo Mirador to watch the horizon strobe for hours.
