An archipelago of roughly 365 tiny islands in Lake Nicaragua, formed when Mombacho blew its flank into the water millennia ago. Boat tours weave among mansions, fishing shacks, a small Spanish fort, and trees full of herons and monkeys. It is an easy, relaxed half-day trip from colonial Granada.

The world is wide open.
