A 4,680-meter extinct volcano west of Toluca whose broad crater cradles two alpine lakes, the Lagunas del Sol y de la Luna. A road and short trail bring day hikers to the crater rim, making it one of the most accessible high-altitude landscapes in central Mexico, with occasional winter snow drawing crowds from the capital.
