Scattered across a wild upland of southern Colombia stands South America's largest gathering of megalithic sculpture: gods, guardians and mythical beasts carved in styles that range from stark abstraction to lifelike detail. They are the legacy of a northern Andean people whose culture rose and fell between the 1st and 8th centuries, leaving few other traces. UNESCO inscribed the San Agustín Archaeological Park as World Heritage in 1995.
