A flat, palm-covered island off the Dominican Republic's southeastern tip, protected within Cotubanamá National Park and inhabited only by two small villages. Catamaran and speedboat day trips from Bayahibe stop at a shallow natural pool where starfish gather on the sandbar. Despite heavy day-trip traffic, its long beaches absorb the crowds and turtle nesting continues on protected stretches.
