A port town on Madagascar's far southeastern coast, backed by green mountains and fronted by surf beaches. Also known as Fort Dauphin, it grew around a 17th-century French outpost whose remains still overlook the bay. It anchors visits to Berenty, Andohahela and the coastal reserves of Sainte Luce.
