Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalú and Monreale

Golden Byzantine mosaics under Islamic honeycomb ceilings, raised by Norman kings — Palermo's 12th-century monuments are a lesson in what cultures can build together. Nine buildings from the Norman kingdom of Sicily (1130–1194), including the Palatine Chapel and the cathedrals of Cefalù and Monreale, were inscribed by UNESCO in 2015.
