Collegiate Church, Castle and Old Town of Quedlinburg

Half-timbered houses crowd the lanes of Quedlinburg by the hundred, making this Saxony-Anhalt town one of Europe's finest surviving medieval townscapes. Once a seat of the Saxon-Ottonian dynasty that ruled the early German empire, it grew wealthy on trade, and its castle hill is crowned by St Servatius, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. UNESCO inscribed the collegiate church, castle and old town of Quedlinburg as a World Heritage Site in 1994.
