Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St Peter and Church of Our Lady in Trier

The Romans called Trier a second Rome, and no wonder — this Moselle city was a colony from the 1st century AD and one of the capitals of the Tetrarchy, and its Porta Nigra, basilica, baths and amphitheatre survive in extraordinary number and quality. Alongside them stand the medieval cathedral of St Peter and the early Gothic Church of Our Lady. UNESCO inscribed the Roman monuments and churches of Trier as a World Heritage Site in 1986.
