Along a humid 80-kilometre corridor on Georgia's Black Sea coast survive the Colchic rainforests and wetlands, relics of a green world that outlasted the Ice Ages. From sea level to over 2,500 metres, ancient deciduous rainforest, bogs and mires shelter roughly 1,100 plant species and hundreds of vertebrates, including the critically endangered Colchic sturgeon, and the coast forms a vital funnel for migrating birds. UNESCO inscribed the Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands as a natural World Heritage Site in 2021.
