Yolyn Am, meaning Lammergeier Gorge, is a narrow canyon cut into the Zuun Saikhan Mountains within the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. At its deepest point the canyon narrows to a few metres wide, keeping it in shadow for most of the day and allowing ice to persist well into summer. The combination of permanent ice within a desert mountain range and resident populations of lammergeier vultures makes the gorge a singular natural spectacle.
