Portillo is a high-altitude ski resort in the Andes of the Valparaíso region, set beside the frozen Laguna del Inca at 2,880 metres elevation near the Argentine border. The resort is known for its deep, dry Andean powder snow, steep and technically demanding terrain, and the concentrated, hotel-bound village structure that makes it a more intimate alternative to larger Andean resorts. The Laguna del Inca, a glacial lake whose turquoise colour intensifies in summer, is visible from most of the upper pistes.
