The Elqui Valley is a narrow river valley cutting through the transverse ranges of the Coquimbo region, celebrated for its pisco-producing vineyards, intensely clear skies, and the mystical reputation associated with its most famous native, poet Gabriela Mistral. The valley's low humidity and minimal light pollution make it one of Chile's principal astrotourism corridors, served by several private and public observatories. The climate is warm and dry with a strong diurnal temperature range.
