Paraty is a colonial port town on the Costa Verde coast whose historic centre has been preserved as a UNESCO cultural landscape alongside the adjacent Ilha Grande. Its cobblestone streets, whitewashed baroque churches, and uniformly colonial streetscape make it one of the best-preserved Portuguese colonial townscapes in Brazil. The surrounding bay is dotted with more than 300 islands and coves accessible by traditional wooden schooner, most offering clear green water and empty beaches.
