Fernando de Noronha is a volcanic archipelago 350 kilometres off the northeast Brazilian coast, designated a UNESCO marine protected area for the richness of its underwater ecosystems. The main island's Baía dos Porcos and Baía do Sancho are consistently ranked among the best beaches in South America, enclosed by basalt cliffs and accessible by steep trails. Spinner dolphins congregate in the Baía dos Golfinhos bay each morning in large pods, observable from a clifftop viewpoint.
