A monolithic granite dome rising approximately 200 meters above the Guatapé reservoir, El Peñón is ascended via a staircase of 740 steps carved into a natural crack in the rock face. The panorama from the summit encompasses the intricate waterway of the artificial lake, dozens of forested islands, and distant Andean ridgelines. Morning light produces the clearest photographic conditions before midday haze builds.
