Caño Cristales

A river in the Serranía de la Macarena that runs through a bed of aquatic plants capable of producing vivid red, yellow, green, and blue coloration between roughly July and November. The phenomenon is driven by the plant Macarenia clavigera responding to specific light and water-level conditions. The surrounding plateau is a mosaic of savanna, jungle, and waterfalls accessible only by small aircraft and guided trek.
