Los Haitises National Park protects a dramatic coastal karst landscape on the southern shore of Samaná Bay, where hundreds of haystack limestone hills (mogotes) emerge from mangrove swamps and shallow bays. Cave systems within the park contain Taíno pictographs and petroglyphs, representing some of the most significant pre-Columbian rock art in the Caribbean. Boat tours from Samaná navigate through the mangrove channels and cave interiors accessible from the water.
