Cayo Largo del Sur is a slender, uninhabited island approximately 25 kilometres long located in the Canarreos Archipelago south of mainland Cuba. Its beaches, particularly Playa Sirena and Playa Los Cocos, are considered among the finest in Cuba, characterised by fine white calcareous sand and intensely turquoise water. The island hosts a sea turtle reproduction centre where green and loggerhead turtles are hatched and released, and frigate birds breed on the offshore cays.
