The Pearl Islands (Archipiélago de las Perlas) are a scattered group of around 200 islands and islets roughly 70 kilometres off Panama City in the Gulf of Panama. Historically renowned for pearl diving and visited by conquistador Vasco Núñez de Balboa, today the islands attract visitors for their remote beaches, world-class sport fishing, and humpback whale sightings between July and October. Isla Contadora is the most accessible and has the most established visitor infrastructure.
