Rincón de la Vieja is an active volcanic complex in Guanacaste comprising at least nine craters, the highest reaching 1,916 metres. The surrounding national park protects dry and transition forest habitats traversed by trails that pass bubbling mud pots, fumaroles, thermal pools, and small waterfalls fed by volcanic-heated streams. The area supports a significant population of white-faced capuchins and coatis that are often visible along park trails.
