A pueblo mágico north of Mexico City, Tepotzotlán is centered on the former Jesuit college and church of San Francisco Javier, which houses what is widely considered the finest example of churrigueresque architecture in Mexico. The main church façade and the interior's gilded retablos took over 200 years to complete in the 17th and 18th centuries. The complex now serves as the Museo Nacional del Virreinato, displaying colonial art and liturgical objects from across New Spain in the atmospheric former convent rooms.
