A steep hillside mining town in Guerrero designated a pueblo mágico, Taxco is built almost entirely on a slope above silver mines that made it wealthy in the colonial period. The baroque Santa Prisca church, completed in 1758 and paid for by silver magnate José de la Borda, dominates the skyline and the main plaza. Narrow white-washed streets wind between centuries-old buildings, and the town remains Mexico's principal center for silver jewelry craftsmanship.
