A small coastal village on the Pacific shore of Oaxaca, Mazunte sits above a series of curved bays separated by rocky headlands. The village was once the center of Mexico's sea turtle processing industry before that trade was banned, and it subsequently reinvented itself around eco-tourism and a cooperatively run natural cosmetics company. The nearby Punta Cometa headland is considered one of the southernmost points of continental Mexico and a favored sunset viewpoint.
