A narrow island northeast of Cancún, Isla Mujeres is known for Playa Norte, a shallow turquoise bay with calm water at the island's northern tip. The island's modest scale is easily explored by golf cart, passing pastel-painted houses, fishing boats, and a small Maya lighthouse ruin at the southern cliffs. Whale shark aggregations offshore between May and September draw snorkelers from across the region.
