Pedernales Falls State Park sits along the Pedernales River in the Texas Hill Country about 50 kilometers west of Austin, centered on a series of stepped limestone ledges over which the river tumbles in broad, tiered cascades. The rock strata are tilted at roughly 30 degrees from horizontal, creating a visually striking pattern of angular slabs in the riverbed that is particularly photogenic during moderate flows following rain. The park offers camping, tubing in designated reaches, and the 15-kilometer Wolf Mountain Trail through cedar-juniper and Texas live oak.
