Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore stretches 60 kilometers along the southern shore of Lake Superior on Michigan's Upper Peninsula, featuring sandstone cliffs up to 60 meters high streaked with mineral seepage in shades of copper green, iron orange, and manganese black. Boat tours departing from Munising provide the classic vantage point on the cliff faces, rock arches, and sea caves, while the Lakeshore Trail runs the full length of the shoreline from Munising Falls to Grand Marais. In winter, frozen waterfalls and ice caves form within the cliffs, drawing ice climbers and photographers.
