Denali, formerly known as Mount McKinley, is the highest peak in North America at 6,190 meters, rising from a base elevation of approximately 610 meters on the Alaskan plateau to give it one of the greatest vertical reliefs of any peak on Earth. The mountain is the centerpiece of the national park bearing its name and its summit is typically attempted via the West Buttress route by roughly 1,200 climbers per year. Aerial flightseeing from Talkeetna provides dramatic views of the peak's glaciated faces and the Alaska Range.
