Mendenhall Glacier flows from the Juneau Icefield to the edge of Mendenhall Lake, about 19 kilometers from downtown Juneau, making it one of the most accessible glaciers in the world from a major settlement. The USFS visitor center sits directly across the lake from the glacier's terminus, offering an unobstructed view of the ice face and the surrounding peaks. Trails on the east side of the lake pass Nugget Falls, a tall cascade that drains directly into the glacier's meltwater lake.
