Waimea Bay on Oʻahu's North Shore transitions between two very different experiences depending on the season. In summer, the bay becomes glassy and calm, drawing snorkelers to a rocky shoreline with abundant marine life, while in winter, northwest swells produce waves reaching 9 meters or higher that attract the world's elite big-wave surfers to the venue known simply as Waimea. A large boulder on the right side of the bay marks the jump rock, a longtime local landmark.
