Honolua Bay sits on the northwestern tip of Maui within a marine life conservation district, protecting a coral reef that supports unusually high fish diversity for the Hawaiian islands. The bay is sheltered by steep ridges covered in a strand of native coastal forest, part of a larger conservation area managed by the state. In winter, Honolua's deep-water channel funnels large northwest swells into one of the most photographed and respected big-wave surf breaks in the North Pacific.
