Gettysburg National Military Park preserves the fields, hills, and farmland of the three-day Battle of Gettysburg, fought July 1-3, 1863, the largest battle of the American Civil War. The park contains more than 1,300 monuments and markers, making it the most monumented battlefield in the world. Cemetery Ridge, Little Round Top, and the Angle — where Pickett's Charge crested the Union line on the third day — provide the landscape context for understanding the tactical decisions that shaped the battle's outcome.
