Natural Bridge is a 215-foot-tall limestone arch spanning 90 feet across Cedar Creek in the Virginia mountains south of Lexington, formed by the gradual collapse of a cave system over millions of years. Thomas Jefferson purchased the bridge and surrounding land in 1774 and called it the most sublime of nature's works. The arch carries US Route 11 across its top, making it one of the few natural rock bridges to support modern vehicular traffic.
